You Can Help End PKD.
PKD (polycystic kidney disease) is one of the world's most common, life-threatening genetic diseases. PKD causes cysts to grow on the kidneys, often leading to kidney failure and death. Parents with the disease have a 50 percent chance of passing it on to each of their children. Because it is passed from generation to generation, PKD often affects many people in one family.
One relatively rare form of PKD (autosomal recessive polycystic disease, ARPKD) affects 1 in 20,000 individuals, and often causes mortality in the first month of life.
Today there is no cure, and patients turn to dialysis or kidney transplants as their only treatment for kidney failure. The PKD Foundation is dedicated to finding treatments and a cure to end PKD, and improving the lives of all it affects.
The PKD Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, is celebrating 30 years of serving thousands of people across the country by promoting research, education, advocacy and awareness.
