Government Relations: Introduction to Government Relations

The vision of the PKD Foundation is that no one suffer the full effects of PKD. Our mission, therefore, is to promote research to find a cure for PKD and improve the care and treatment of those it affects. A critical part of fulfilling that mission is raising awareness of PKD among elected officials in Washington, D.C., and at the state and community level.

PKD is not just a medical or research issue but also an emotional, economic and social issue. PKD also becomes a political issue when our elected officials make decisions or withhold action on policies or legislation important to finding treatments and an eventual cure for this devastating disease.

How does the PKD Foundation raise awareness? We have dedicated staff that work with your Senators and Representatives in D.C. to educate them about PKD and the amazing progress being made in finding a cure. Our network of nationwide local chapters and volunteers coordinate several public events each year to raise awareness of PKD. Through our advocacy efforts, we strive to promote laws, policies and funding that benefit PKD research, and PKD patients and their families.
