2008 Standard Research Grant Award

Introduction
The PKD Foundation endeavors to stimulate and support basic laboratory research that will lead to an increased understanding of the genetic and pathological processes involved in Polycystic Kidney Disease and will identify targets for therapeutic intervention that will slow or stop disease progression.

Purpose of Standard Grant Request for Proposals
The current Standard Grant Request for Proposals (RFA) has been developed to foster further research in all hereditary cystic disorders, especially to address the mechanisms involved in disease pathogenesis and the structure and function of polycystic kidney disease-related genes in health and disease. The current RFA is also intended to support the development of potential interventions that could slow the rate of progression of both renal and biliary lesions in hereditary cystic disorders in order to ultimately provide curative or preventive therapies for these disorders.

The standard grant award provides $85,000 per year for two years, for a total award amount of $170,000. Prior to second year funding the P.I. must submit a research report and a financial status report to the Foundation.
