2008 Fellowship Award
Introduction
The PKD Foundation endeavors to stimulate and support basic laboratory research that will lead to an increased understanding of the genetic and pathological processes involved in Polycystic Kidney Disease and will identify targets for therapeutic intervention that will slow or stop disease progression.
Purpose of Fellowship Request for Proposals
The current RFA has been developed as a training mechanism to foster further research at the cellular and molecular level in all hereditary cystic disorders and to address the structure and function of polycystic kidney disease related genes in health and disease. As well, the current RFA is dedicated to support the development of potential interventions that could slow the rate of progression of both renal and biliary lesions in hereditary cystic disorders in order to ultimately provide curative or preventive therapies for these disorders.
The fellowship award provides $50,000 per year for two years, for a total of $100,000. Prior to the second year funding the principal investigator must submit a research report and a financial status report to the Foundation. The principal investigator in the research fellow’s laboratory is allowed the discretion to equalize the salary of the award to coincide with other research fellows in the laboratory. In these cases, the difference may be applied to the costs of animal care, supplies, etc., per prior approval by the PKD Foundation.
