HALT PKD Clinical Trials Set to Begin

The first PKD patients are now enrolling for the National Institutes of Health HALT PKD clinical trials.

As part of the trials, researchers at seven test sites across the country will investigate whether a combination of blood pressure medications and blood pressure control will slow the rate of kidney growth in PKD patients.

PKD Foundation President and CEO Dan Larson applauded the start of human trials in this important study.

"From discovery of the PKD gene to clinical trials with patients in just 10 years is phenomenal progress!" Larson said. "PKD families are anxious to learn of any potential benefits. Their hope and the hope of the PKD Foundation is that this will be a step toward finding a cure for PKD and improving the care and treatment of those it affects.

Funding for these clinic trials was made possible by the PKD Foundation. Test sites for the HALT PKD study include Tufts University- New England Medical Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Emory University, Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Kansas University Medical Center and University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
