Fundraising FAQs

I’ve never fundraised before…what should I do?

It’s easier than you think – start by logging in to your Mission Center and sending out an email to family and friends, sharing your personal connection to PKD and stressing the need for research and education to stop PKD before it affects future generations. Fundraising tips and tools are also available here.

Who should checks be made payable to?

Please make all checks payable to the PKD Foundation. Please write the name of the walker to whom you would like credit to be given in the memo line of each check.

Can I enter donations I received offline to my personal page?

You certainly can! In your Mission Center, click on the “My Progress” tab, and then click “Enter Offline Gift”. After entering and confirming this donation, this gift will show up in blue on your thermometer as pledged. When we receive the gift, the color will shift from blue to red – from pledged to confirmed receipt.

I am having trouble loading my Mission Center on my computer. How can I fix this?

We have found that if you are using the Safari Web broswer, the Mission Center will not load correctly unless you have Safari version 5. To ensure your Mission Center will load corectly, download the latest version of Safari. If your problems persist, please feel free to call 1-800-PKD-CURE or send an e-mail to walkforpkd@pkdcure.org for further assistance.

How do I submit checks my donors give me for my Walk campaign?

In order to have the donations confirmed on your personal page, please mail all your donations along with the Donation Submission Form OR export your list of offline donations from your Mission Center, under the My Progress tab, and send us a print out. Each offline gift that is entered is given a confirmation code; to ensure correct accounting, please send us the confirmation code when remitting offline gifts that have been entered online.

Please submit a separate Donation Submission Form for each walker. Please include the confirmation code for each offline gift that has been entered into your Mission Center.

What if a donor gives me cash?

Please convert all cash donations to a money order or check before mailing it in with a Donation Submission Form. This will help to ensure safe arrival of your donation and proper crediting to your generous donor.

If the offline gift of cash has been entered into your Mission Center, a confirmation code was given at that time. Please include the confirmation code when remitting these funds, so we can properly credit the funds to your account when received.

Are donations tax deductible?

PKD Foundation gifts are deductive to the extent provided by law.

For your records, our Tax ID# is 43-1266906.

Will my donor get a receipt from the PKD Foundation?

In an effort to put even more of the money you raise toward research & patient education, the PKD Foundation does not mail out reciepts or thank you letters to your donors for you. You may send a personal thank you note to all of your donors (template available in your Mission Center), please provide receipts to your donors. Please use this Cash Donation Form.

How long does it take for a donation I mailed in to show up on my personal page?

If you enter your offline gifts into your Mission Center, they will show up and pledged gifts immediately and be reflected on your honor role and in your total. Please allow 7-10 business days from the time we receive the gifts to see it appear on your personal page (if not entered by you), or to see it confirmed (if entered already.) Depending on mail in your area, this could make the process approximately 3-4 weeks.

Can I turn in money at the Walk?

Absolutely! When you check in at your event, there will be envelopes available for you to turn in your donations. All funds received on Walk Day will be deposited, processed and posted to your personal page within 4 weeks of the day of the event.

How long will donations for the Walk for PKD be accepted?

We will accept donations to credit your 2011 event through December 31, 2011. However, to be eligible for prize incentives, you must submit your funds within 30 days after the event.

The online donations page doesn't seem secure, is it?

Some browsers will show a "lock" ,usually next to the url, denoting that the page is secure. However, as long as the page has "https" instead of just "http" the page is still secure even when the "lock" is not present.

Are there any prize incentives for fundraising?

Yes! If you raise $100.00 (on or before walk day), you will receive a commemorative Walk for PKD t-shirt. You are also eligible for prizes when you raise $200 or more, which are available for viewing on the Great Rewards section on each Walk page.

I earned a prize certificate for my fundraising. How do I redeem it?

The PKD Rewards site opens up for prize redemption a week from the Monday following your event. Visit http://www.pkdrewards.org/ to view & select your prize, or you can follow the links on the page of the walk you participated in ("Great Rewards" and "Go to the PKD Rewards site").  New data is uploaded to the prize site periodically, but not daily. If you see your donations confirmed in your Mission Center, but not yet reflected on the prize site, give us a few days to upload a new report and you’ll then be able to claim your correct prize level!

How does Team Fundraising work?

When a donor gives to an individual walker, that donation will show up on his/her personal page honor roll. Only the largest 20 gifts will scroll. This donation goes toward the individual walker’s total and prize eligibility, it also rolls up into the team total and the event total.

Although you cannot donate to a specific team, by donating to a walker you are supporting the team the walker is on and the event as a whole.

My company matches gifts. Do you accept matching gifts?

Absolutely! Please contact your company’s Human Resources department for instructions on how to get started. Since every company handles these programs uniquely, there is not universal paperwork to submit. To find out more info about your companies matching donor policy or to see if they offer matching gifts please click here http://matchfinderonline.blackbaud.com/matchgiftinquiry.aspx?cid=21630

Will the matching gift display on my personal page?

Yes! As soon as the PKD Foundation receives the matching funds from your company, we will post it to the website for viewing.
