(Kansas City) April 14, 2006 — With a mission to provide hope to the 12.5 million people worldwide with polycystic kidney disease (PKD), the PKD Foundation is seeking applications for research funding.
In 2006, the PKD Foundation funded $3.7 million in PKD research. This year the PKD Foundation will accept grant and fellowship applications. New this year, is the application for bridge grants.

Deadlines are as follows: Grant applications (August 15, 2006), Fellowship applications (August 15, 2006) and Bridge Grant applications(September 1, 2006; December 1, 2006 and March 1, 2007).
Application guidelines and downloadable forms are available on-line at www.pkdcure.org. For questions on the application progress contact PKD Foundation Scientific Program Director, Lorrie Rome at lorrier@pkdcure.org.

PKD is the world’s most life-threatening genetic disease, affecting 1 in 500 people regardless of sex, age, race or ethnic origin. For the 600,000 Americans suffering from PKD, fluid-filled cysts grow on the kidneys. Over time, these cysts get bigger and multiply, often leading to kidney failure. Dialysis and transplantation are the only options. Currently, there is no treatment and no cure.

The not-for-profit PKD Foundation is the only organization, worldwide, dedicated to finding a treatment and a cure for this devastating disease. For more information about PKD and the PKD Foundation, visit www.pkdcure.org or call 1-800-PKD-CURE.
