PKD Champions, Your Advocacy Can Help Cure PKD!
Last year, more than 100 PKD advocates attended the event, representing 31 states and making approximately 140 visits with members of Congress. They became a strong voice for the more than 600,000 Americans with PKD.
Advocacy is vital to help advance research, lead to the discovery of new treatments, and a cure for PKD. In 2009, federal funding for PKD research reached an all-time high of $45 million at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This success is due to the efforts of PKD patients, families, and friends, who worked hard to raise awareness of PKD on Capitol Hill with their members of Congress.
Join us this year as we work toward these goals:
- Increase federal funding for PKD research
- Change FDA policy for approving promising treatments and therapies
- Tackle the shortage of kidney donors
- Address inadequate Medicare coverage of immunosuppressive drugs.
