PKD Foundation Attends ASN Kidney Week
The session Bringing PKD Treatments to the Clinic featured renowned PKD experts speaking to a standing-room only crowd.
The PKD Foundation recently funded and attended the American Society of Nephrology's (ASN) Kidney Week Conference in Atlanta. Nearly 10,000 nephrologists, clinicians and researchers from around the world gathered to attend the world’s premier nephrology meeting. Kidney Week provides participants opportunities to exchange knowledge, learn the latest scientific and medical advances, and listen to leading experts in the field.
- The PKD Foundation co-sponsored a continuing education seminar with ASN, titled Update on Polycystic Kidney Disease: Translating Mechanism into Therapy. SAC members Dr. John Bissler and Dr. Ben Cowley were the co-chairs of the session, which had a full room of attendees.
- Dr. Stefan Somlo, PKD Foundation Scientific Advisory Committee Vice Chair, won the Homer W. Smith Award from ASN. Somlo has a distinguished career as a nephrologist and PKD researcher. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made outstanding contributions which fundamentally affect the science of nephrology.
- The Kidney Health Initiative (KHI) presented outcomes of its first year and future plans. KHI is a collaboration between ASN and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. KHI promotes kidney health in a variety of ways, such as more focused clinical trials, furthering patient participation in clinical studies development and improvement of devices in clinical trials.
