The 31 Day PKD Awareness Challenge
Week 1
March 1: Get educated! Our website has tons of great educational resources, including our webinars featuring medical professionals and PKD experts.
March 2: Wear teal!
March 3: Want to give your friends a peek into what it's like to have PKD? Share this link, www.experiencepkd.com
Week 2
March 4: Update your status on Facebook to spread awareness about PKD.
March 5: Email a friend and tell them about PKD.
March 6: Tell your friends to "like" the PKD Foundation on Facebook.
March 7: Encourage your friends and family to become organ donors - or become one yourself!
March 8: Happy World Kidney Day! If you have one, wear your PKD t-shirt! People may ask about it. What a perfect opportunity to teach someone about PKD.
March 9: If you haven't already, sign up for our E-Newsletter! We send one out every month and it's filled with great stuff like patient stories, new education resources, advocacy opportunities, research updates and more.
March 10: PKD patients are encouraged to drink lots of water - at least 64oz. a day! Challenge yourself to drink the full 64 ounces today.
Week 3
March 11: Do your friends know an average kidney is the size of a fist, but an average polycystic kidney is the size of an NFL football? Tell them and you can help spread awareness.
March 12: Go to your local drug store or grocery store and get your blood pressure checked! A PKD patient's blood pressure goal is a reading less than 130/80.
March 13: Learn about our "Accelerating Treatments to patients" initiative! Learn more here.
March 14: Visit our PKD Health Notes blog for the latest health and nutritional information.
March 15: Are you on Facebook or Twitter? Change your profile picture to this image to help spread awareness!
March 16: It's recommended that PKD patients greatly limit their caffeine intake. Try to go caffeine-free for the day!
March 17: Have a friend who's looking to get rid of a car? Let them know they can donate their car and all proceeds will go the PKD Foundation! Learn more here.
Week 4
March 18: Check out the Facts about PKD - and share it with your friends!
March 19: Has it been awhile since you had a check-up with your doctor? Make an appointment today.
March 20: If you're on Twitter - tweet to spread awareness for PKD. Don't forget to include #pkd!
March 21: Make a kidney-healthy recipe! Visit pkdhealthnotes.org for some great recipes.
March 22: Write your congressman and ask for their support of PKD! You can find tips on writing your congressman here
March 23: You've done so well in the challenges so far - why not push yourself a little more and get involved with the PKD Foundation? We have 60 chapters all over the country waiting for members like you!
March 24: Not clear on the basics of a kidney transplant? Or maybe you just want to learn more? Visit KidneyLink.org
Week 5
March 25: Figure out how many people in your area have PKD. Just take your city's population and divide it by 500 - and spread the word.
March 26: Send a tweet to your favorite celebrity and ask for their support for PKD and kidney donation!
March 27: Want to learn how to cook more kidney-healthy recipes? Purchase a copy of our Brilliant Eats cookbook - or buy one as a gift!.
March 28: Update your status about text to donate! To make a $10 donation, all you have to do is text PKDCURE to 20222. Easy as that!
March 29: Learn about ARPKD, the recessive form of PKD. It affects boys and girls equally and can cause death in the first month of life. If the child survives the newborn period, the chances of survival are good. For these children, approximately one-third will need dialysis or transplantation by the age of 10.
March 30: Visit www.youtube.com/pkdfoundation and share a video with your friends!
March 31: Update your Facebook status and/or Tweet to let all of your friends know you just completed the 31 Day PKD Awareness Challenge for National Kidney Month. Thank you for spreading awareness of PKD!
