Chief Scientific Officer

The PKD Foundation is seeking a Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) to work for the organization's national headquarters based in Kansas City, Mo. The CSO will report to the CEO and is responsible for establishing and leading the scientific strategic positioning and direction of the Foundation's research and development efforts.

An M.D., Ph.D., Pharm.D. or MS in biomedical sciences is required. Must have 5 to 15 years of biomedical, drug discovery and development, or clinical research experience to include research staff management and budget authority. Relevant leadership experience in managing research or research funding in academia or the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, ideally in a publicly visible environment, is necessary.

Seasonal Administrative Assistant (20-40 hours per week, Sept. 2, 2014 - approximately Nov. 15, 2014)

Supervisor: Director of Chapter Services

Primary Function: Assist with projects assigned by the Director of Chapter Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

Walk for PKD

  • Process donations received at Walks including counting money and the reconciliation process;
  • As needed by 50 individual Walks, count items such as brochures, pack boxes, handle shipping process to mail materials;
  • Update webpages with current information
  • Assist donors with online registration for the Walk for PKD


  • Primary back-up to answer general PKD phone line
  • Process mail
  • Work in the MailChimp software program to send emails to targeted groups of constituents

Job Requirements

This is a part-time non-exempt position that may require some evening and weekend work. When this is necessary, flex time will be provided. This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive; the employee may also be expected to perform related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Education/Knowledge/Experience – Bachelor's degree in business or related field. 1 to 3 years of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge/Judgment – Candidate must possess a commitment to the vision and mission of the PKD Foundation. Candidate must exhibit competency in organization, project and volunteer coordination. Candidate must possess strong interpersonal and public relations skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with volunteers. Candidate must be a self-starter and possess the ability to prioritize workflow while performing a variety of duties at one time. Candidate must possess a collaborative spirit and be skilled in problem solving and team-building. Candidate must be able to meet deadlines, make accurate decisions, work independently and as a team-player, and must act in a professional and positive manner while representing the PKD Foundation and dealing with the public. Candidate must have a valid driver's license and good office (including computer) skills.

Physical Demands – Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands and arms, read, stoop, crouch, talk, hear, see objects clearly at 20 inches or less, and lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
