Valen Cover's inspirational biography, My Favorite American, has been selected as the winner of the Helene Kenigsberg Award for Excellence in Public Awareness of Polycystic Kidney Disease by the PKD Foundation of Canada. Written by Canadian author Dennis McCloskey, My Favorite American details the obstacles the 27-year-old has endured, including an organ transplant, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a seizure disorder, coliosis, pancreatitis and a motorcycle accident.

Bruce Yates is an investment manager by day, underwater photographer by night, and eternal optimist by nature. So it should come as no surprise that only hours removed from his kidney transplant at the University of Washington Medical Center, he was his usual cheerful self, only with an extra dose of gratitude added for good reason.

On September 29 – her eighth birthday – Quinn received a life-saving kidney transplant. Now her miraculous story will be shared with the world on NBC’s Today Show. The story was supposed to air the morning of Thursday, Oct. 15 but has been postponed. The new date will be announced as soon as it's available.
