On January 1, 2011, the Donate Life float will roll through the streets of Pasadena reminding millions of viewers of the Rose Parade to "Seize the Day" and register as organ donors in an effort to save lives. Aboard the float will be PKD patient, Valen Cover.

Valen Cover's inspirational biography, My Favorite American, has been selected as the winner of the Helene Kenigsberg Award for Excellence in Public Awareness of Polycystic Kidney Disease by the PKD Foundation of Canada. Written by Canadian author Dennis McCloskey, My Favorite American details the obstacles the 27-year-old has endured, including an organ transplant, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), a seizure disorder, coliosis, pancreatitis and a motorcycle accident.

Dr. Patricia Gabow, an expert in the forefront of PKD research, was one of the recipients of the 25th anniversary Bonfils Stanton Award, also known as the Colorado Nobel Prize. Dr. Gabow is on the ground floor of PKD research with Dr. Jared Grantham, co-founder of the PKD Foundation.
