The Walk for PKD is coming up soon, but there's still time to register and raise money to stop PKD! Your support - and the support of your family, friends, co-workers and neighbors - is critical to finding treatments and a cure. United, we can fight to stop PKD! The tools on our website will help get you started, and don't forget to join our 20/20 Vision by asking 20 friends to donate $20 each. Take action today!

Join our Walt Disney World® Run for PKD team in Orlando on January 8-9, 2011!
Run a half-marathon, full-marathon, or the Goofy Race (39.3 miles!) With a fundraising minimum of only $600 and great travel incentives, your participation can create a family fun vacation as well as raise essential funds and help those affected by PKD. Take matters into your own hands, your fundraising will help find treatments and a cure for PKD! PKD stops with you. Registration deadline is September 30, 2010! Learn More.

Coming up! Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon in March 2011! Registration details in September! Questions, contact Kirsten Cooper, Run for PKD Manager runforpkd@pkdcure.org or (219) 771-1080.

Learn & Connect

A supplement in the August 19 issue of the Chicago Tribune provides some excellent PKD exposure. The article, “Kidney Health – Reducing Risk and Raising Awareness,” covers a variety of kidney related information and features detailed information about PKD as well as a promotion for the Chicago Walk for PKD.

Another awareness raising opportunity is hitting the race tracks! A PKD family has created and entered an End PKD race car design in Toyota's Sponsafy My Ride Contest. Designs with the highest number of votes receive great prizes, and the grand prize winner's design will be showcased at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' Kobalt Tools 500 in Phoenix. Click here to view and vote for the End PKD design. The contest ends Aug. 31, so keep voting every day!

More than 300 people attended the 2010 National Convention on PKD earlier this month in sunny San Diego to learn and connect with others affected by PKD. For the first time, the convention drew a large crowd of younger adults, all excited to share and learn from others. Attendees of all ages enjoyed and benefited from the education sessions, including two new presentations - Managing Grief With Positive Outcomes and Taking Care of Yourself While Taking Care of Others - which will be back on the agenda for next year. Another first  - the convention went green! All materials were available electronically to help save money and the environment. Next year's convention will be held July 22-24 at The InterContinental Buckhead Atlanta - an excellent location for your next family vacation. We hope to see you there!

Research

A special satellite symposium on ARPKD will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Fifteenth Congress of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association. The session will takple place at the New York Hilton in New York City, and registration and course information is available here.

The PKD Foundation is sponsoring a full-day medical education session on ADPKD at this year’s ASN Renal Week November 16 - 21 in Denver.
