New Guideline May Deprive Recipients of Lifesaving Organs
The Public Health Service (PHS) has initiated a new guideline to discard any transplanted organ at risk of blood borne infection, which could result in organs being discarded unnecessarily. The PKD Foundation believes patients in need of organ transplants may be better served to accept an organ with a very small risk of infection transmission rather than wait longer for a perfect organ.
