Twin Cities Walk for PKD
Saturday, September 13th, 2008

Located at Normandale Lake Park, Bloomington, MN

Walk begins at 10:00am - Registration begins at 8:30am

Register now and walk to support the fight against PKD.

Join us early for 8:30 AM registration, and you won’t be disappointed. Coffee from Caribou Coffee along with breakfast breads from Breadsmith, Great Harvest Bread Company and Whole Foods Market will great you when you arrive. At the bandshell, emcee Michele Jansen, station manager at KBEM/88.5 FM Jazz, will warm up the crowd as we enjoy breakfast and live jazz. The Walk will begin at 10:00 AM. Thanks to the continued generosity of the Edina Lions Club, we will have hot dogs, bratwurst, chips and drinks waiting for us after the Walk – FREE for all registered Walkers. We’ll have music to entertain us and prizes will be awarded at this time.

Our goal is to raise $200,800!  Our stretch goal is to raise $236,283. Why such a specific amount you ask?  The Twin Cities Chapter has raised $763,717 in the last 10 year under the direction and leadership of Gary DeGrande.  The Walk would like to round that number up so that when Gary retires from his post as Chapter Coordinator the chapter will have raised a total of $1,000,000!

National Convention on PKD - Summer 2009

The National Convention on PKD is the only opportunity, worldwide, for PKD patients, their families and and medical professionals to learn about PKD and connect with others in the PKD community.

In 2009, the convention will be held in two locations:
Chicago, IL and San Diego, CA

Visit www.pkdcure.org for more information!

Bowling for PKD has been a great cooperative fundraiser with SW Minneapolis High School for the past three years. On the last day of school, before Christmas break, students do a bit of fundraising and are rewarded with a half day of bowling at donated alleys near the school. There are no costs involved and we have raised $8,500 (2005-2007) while helping raise awareness of PKD in the community. Special thanks to Ed Roche at SW Mpls High School for his enthusiastic help.

Perhaps you have ideas on how to extend these fundraisers into other surrounding schools? Or maybe you have your own ideas for special events? If so, we would be happy to listen and help you. Contact Gary (see contact information above).

Make a difference in the lives of 12.5 million people.

There are jobs for everyone, big and small. Just contact us at MinnesotaChapter@pkdcure.org to find out how you can make a difference in the lives of 12.5 million people!

Many of you work at companies with "charitable opportunities" that we may not be aware of. If you donate to the PKD Foundation, be sure to take advantage of matching contributions. But beyond that, some companies have volunteer groups who might be interested in working with us. Some companies hold non profit awareness days and we would be happy to participate. Some of you may be able to help us with company sponsorship of events like the Walk for PKD or Golfing for PKD. If you have any ideas in this area, please contact Gary (see above contact info).

A Message about our Chapter.

The Minnesota Chapter is an active and growing chapter. We are fortunate to have received some awards over the past years, including "Outstanding Chapter" from the PKD Foundation and "Heart of the Event" from Minnesota Monthly magazine. We have a good group of dedicated volunteers, a mix of all ages, passionate about our mission. We welcome you to join us. Together we are making a difference in the lives of those affected by PKD, especially future generations!
