other ways to donate

In addition to traditional cash donations, you and your family can support the PKD Foundation through the following options.

Stock or Appreciated Securities

Favorable tax laws allow the full-market value to be considered as a tax-deductible contribution (versus cost) of a stock or appreciated security (held for more than one year) when gifted to a public charity, like the PKD Foundation. You may also avoid capital gains tax on these appreciated securities (held for more than one year) when you gift them to a charitable organization. Read more about Gifts of Stock in our Estate Gift Planning Guide. For information about the specific tax benefits to which you may be entitled through your charitable gifting of appreciated (or even depreciated) stock or securities, please consult your tax advisor or attorney.

If you would like to electronically transfer a gift of securities to the PKD Foundation, please print and complete this letter of authorization (PDF). Mail or fax the original letter to your broker, and mail or fax a copy, listing the date of the transfer, the amount and the purpose of the contribution to the PKD Foundation so that we can properly acknowledge your gift. Workplace Giving

Supporting the PKD Foundation through your workplace is easy through the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) and the United Way campaign. As a member of the Health & Medical Research Charities of America (HMR) federation, we are still included in this year’s CFC with our assigned CFC number, 10317. The 2007 season runs from September 1 to December 15 and this annual fundraising drive for federal civilian, postal and military employees will raise millions of dollars. So, please make sure to designate your gift to the PKD Foundation CFC identification number: 10317. If you are a federal employee or serve in the military, or you know someone who does, please designate 10317 - PKD Foundation when participating in the 2007 Combined Federal Campaign this fall.

The PKD Foundation is not a United Way agency, but it does receive gifts through the United Way donor designation program. Please make a point to designate your donation to the PKD Foundation if you participate in the annual United Way campaign at work. Please be aware that 75 percent to 90 percent of your total contribution will be received by the PKD Foundation after United Way administrative fees are taken out. Thousands of employers worldwide offer a Matching Gift program for charitable giving. Check with your company's Human Resource department to see how you can participate. For more information on workplace giving, please contact Heidi Gorman at 1-800-PKD-CURE or heidig@pkdcure.org

Vehicle Donations

Through the V-DAC (Vehicle Donations to Any Charity) program, you can donate your vehicle and designate the funds to our organization. Click on the website link above to learn more and follow the instructions on how to donate your vehicle. All you will need is our EIN# 43-1266909 to be entered with no dashes when completing your vehicle donation online. For questions on this program, please contact Heidi Gorman at 1-800-PKD-CURE or email heidig@pkdcure.org

In-Kind Gifts

The PKD Foundation welcomes In Kind Gifts to help fulfill our vision that “no one suffers the full effects of PKD.” By donating goods or services, you are helping free up operating dollars that can now go toward funding PKD research. Should you have an item or service you wish to donate, please contact Mark Stone, Vice Presid Programs/Administration, at marks@pkdcure.org or 1-800-PKD-CURE.

Donate PKD Kidney(s) for Research

If you or someone you know will be getting their PKD kidney(s) removed, please consider donating them to research. Researchers have made significant breakthroughs in recent years with the help of donated PKD kidneys. If you find you must have your kidney(s) removed and wish to donate them to PKD research, please call the PKD Foundation at 1-800-PKD-CURE with the following information at least 10 days prior to the kidney removal:

  • 1. Date of surgery and number of kidneys being donated.
  • 2. Hospital name and location (address, city, state, zip).
  • 3. Name and phone number of your surgeon (or, in
some cases, the transplant coordinator at the hospital).
  • 4. Name and address of the person donating the kidney(s).
  • 5. How long the donor has been on dialysis or had a transplant.

The PKD Foundation provides a "contact-only" service. We will contact researchers who have requested PKD kidneys to notify them of the availability of your donated kidneys. The researchers will use this information to contact your surgeon directly and make the appropriate arrangements for shipping. The PKD Foundation does not receive reports from the researchers as to how the kidneys were used, and therefore cannot provide that information to you or your doctor.
